Nowadays, the display technology industry is flourishing. Among them, MicroLED has become a technological highland in the industry's upstream competition due to its high resolution, low power consumption, high brightness, high color saturation, fast response speed, thin thickness, and long life. Compared with LCD and OLED, MicroLED has its unmatched pedigree advantage. This near-perfect display technology is recognized by the industry as a strong competitor of next-generation display technology.
What is MicroLED?
MicroLED refers to a high-density integrated LED array. The distance between LED pixels in the array is on the order of 10 microns, and each LED pixel can emit light.
It is to miniaturize the traditional inorganic LED array, and each LED pixel with a size of 10 microns can be independently addressed and lit. Simply put, it can be seen as the size of the small-pitch LED is further reduced to the order of 10 microns. The display method of MicroLED is very direct. The 10-micron LED chip is connected to the TFT drive substrate, so as to realize the precise control of the brightness of each chip, and then realize the image display.
In 2016, the concept of MicroLED set off a global research boom. However, MicroLED is always limited by some bottleneck technologies, especially in the mass transfer process. Even if the industry can make breakthroughs, it is necessary to truly improve yield and reduce costs. It takes time.
What is mass transfer technology? We know that LED is not a new thing, but for a long time it has only been used in outdoor advertising screens. The reason is that if you want to achieve a mobile phone/TV level display, how to make the "massive" three-color tiny The transfer of LEDs to the substrate on which the drive circuit is made is the key to determining whether it can be commercialized.
In addition, MicroLED has a big problem that is the issue of the unity of the screen. Regardless of whether for mobile phones or TV screens, the number of pixels is huge, and the size of each pixel is quite small. How can we ensure the uniformity of color and brightness of all pixels? After all, no one will tolerate a screen with "spots". Like massive transfer technology, screen unity is another major bottleneck restricting the development of MicroLED technology.
Now, this technology has finally achieved large-scale application, all thanks to a leading enterprise at the downstream application end of the LED display industry chain: Leyard. In just four years, Leyard continued to break through technical barriers, and accumulated dozens of drive technology, MicroLED process technology core invention patents and international patents, and took practical actions to promote the industrialization of MicroLED display technology.
On July 15, Leyard held a MicroLED commercial display product launch conference at the group headquarters. Through online live broadcast, it released 40-inch 2k (P0.4), 54-inch 2k (P0.6), and 67-inch 2k ( P0.7), 81-inch 2k (P0.9) four mass-produced MicroLED commercial display products. In the special year of 2020, this conference can be said to be a boost to the industrialization process of MicroLED, and it also laid the groundwork for a new round of reshuffle of China's LED display market.
